Fiskville Redress Scheme

The UFUA congratulates the Victorian Branch for their exceptional efforts in mitigating the risks of occupational cancer for Firefighters. Whilst we have fought hard to have PFAS chemicals removed from firefighting, no-one can undo the suffering caused by exposure to toxins. This redress scheme is the best way to support people who have been impacted by PFAS contamination.

The redress scheme acknowledges the harm caused to affected UFUA Members, Firefighters, support personnel and members of the community who worked and/or trained at, or lived on or near, the Fiskville Training College.  It will provide support – both financial and otherwise – to those affected.

Following many years of the Victorian Branch raising issues with respect to the standards of water at Fiskville Training College, a Parliamentary Inquiry was ultimately announced.

For over 6 years, UFUA member Mick Tisbury has advocated strongly on behalf of impacted Firefighters to ensure that the redress scheme covered as many Firefighters and community members as possible and to ensure the scheme was not watered down.

The Fiskville Redress Scheme opened on 5 September 2022 and we encourage any impacted members to access the scheme.
